Strategies

• Continue to talk about what you are doing throughout your day with your toddler, where you are going, and what you see throughout your day.
  • When you are talking about what you are doing/what you see, focus on the size of the object as appropriate.
    • ie. Rather than saying “Look, a truck”, you can say “Look, BIG truck”
  • Reading stories/Singing song:
    • Discuss the size relationships in the story.
      • i.e. The tree is big!  The dog is small
    • During play, use size words during to help describe the object.
      • ie. Child says: “Mommy ball”
      • Parent says: “It’s a BIG ball”
    • NOTE: If it is available, point out a “small” ball at the same time to allow your toddler the opportunity to compare
